2004 Cabernet Sauvignon
About the Winemakers
Lawrence Cortez and Romel Rivera are the two winemakers for Corté Riva Vineyards. Romel Rivera is the Head Winemaker, while Lawrence Cortez is the Assistant Winemaker and heads the cellar work. They met while working at Pride Cellars Vineyards where they both still also work today
Rated 89+ by Wine Advocate. A dark ruby color, this Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 18 months in French Oak barrels, 75% new. This well balanced wine has great structure. It is full bodied, yet elegant and refined. It has an intense nose of blackberry and black cherry, dark chocolate and sweet integrated oak. The flavors continue through the mid palate with the addition of spice and fine soft tannin.

Bortoluzzi Pinot Grigio
The Bortoluzzi estate started off in 1982, although Giovanni Bortoluzzi's winemaking vocation had begun long before. A mere 37 years old at the time, he was already at the peak of his career as consultant, bottler and `wine ambassador' for a number of top growers in Friuli. Giovanni selected a few ideally placed vineyards on the gravelly, mineral-enriched deposit of the diverted Isonzo River.
The abundant minerals in the soil make for the grapes' rich components and extract, and for the wines' richness in fruity /floral nuances and varietal character. The vineyards are sheltered by mountains from the raw northern winds, allowing grapes to mature gently in the mild autumn sun. This superb terroir is doubly blessed in Giovanni himself, whose winemaking talent and in-depth knowledge of the region are second to none.

The twenty two separate vineyards that comprise this year's Overlook include such distinguished growers as Sangaciomo, Bien Nacido, Martinelli, and Lorenzo. All the wines in the Overlook bottling are barrel fermented using indigenous yeasts and undergo full malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged sur lie for nine months in Burgundian barrels and racked to tanks for blending.
The aromas of toasted almonds, caramel, and coconut are followed by crisp green apple and lemon rind flavors that convey certain minerality. The acidity will pair well with seafood's and shellfish, and complement pastas with cream sauces, as well as roast chicken and pork roast with fruit.

Try A Great Chianti That Wine Spectator Magazine Gave 91pts and Calls it A "Smart Buy"
It Was Also on The Top 100 list in WS Magazine in 2005
And Now Again in The Top 100 of 2007
91 points - Wine Spectator
88 points - International Wine Cellar
An enticing, rather pronounced ruby red, edged with garnet. Its suite of fragrances exhibits considerable complexity, opening to dark fruit such as plum and blackcurrant, then enriched by a pungent spiciness that betrays cinnamon and clove. The attack offers dense, impressive pulp, and fine-grained tannins that marry beautifully with its alcohol; the result is a solidly-built, but not heavy or extractive, wine with a seamless, long-lingering finish.

Vintage 2004
Wine Advocate - 8-29-05/ Issue 160 - 89 points - The Great Wine Values of Leonardo LoCascio's Winebow
"It is ripe and elegant, with more minerality...as well as a distinctive terroir, wet stone, volcanic character. Although earthy, the fruit dominates, revealing notes of lemon blossom, orange marmalade, and a hint of ripe apples. A delicious offering with loads of personality, it can be drunk as an aperitif, or served with poultry or seafood dishes."

Enjoy the beautiful straw color and aromas of freshly cut red apple, vanilla and well-integrated oak. There are also enticing aromas of tropical and citrus fruit. The predominant flavors are clean, tart apple with toasty graham and subtle oak. This Chardonnay has a mouth-filling body with a medium-long finish that is very refreshing.

Maramonte Syrage
Nestled in a Valley at the southern end of the Sierra Nevada, close to Sequoia National Forest, the vineyards of Maramonte are planted in soil that is reminiscent of those found in the great growing regions of France and Italy.
Charles F. Mara's Maramonte Syrage is produced here, from vineyards controlled and farmed to strict specifications and vinted at Maramonte's bonded, state of the art facility, makes for long-term consistency and quality of wine.
From the Central Coast they found vineyards that provided Maramonte Syrage with a Meritage Blend of Petite Sirah (13%), Petit Verdot (29%) and Syrah (58%). Aromas of blackberry jam and licorice announce The Syrah while the "petit's" give complexities of mouth feel, color, plums, spice and smoke. "Syrage" meets expectations with grilled meats (Ribs, Ribeye’s, hot links) and dark chocolate. Young, brash and adventurous, waiting to mature with you, if you can wait!! Rule #1) Swirl, Sniff, Sip, Swallow, Take a bite. Rule #2) Repeat Rule #1.

Tenuta Campo di Sasso

del Cinghiale, Tuscany
Many have heard of Lodovico Antinori, the founder of the Ornellaia Estate and the world class wine Masseto, now under the control of the Frescobaldi family after the global Mondavi split. : Campo di Sasso is the new and only joint venture project of the Antinori family: Piero Antinori (head of the Marchesi Antinori firm), his brother Lodovico (creator of Ornellaia) and their nephew Niccolò Marzichi Lenzi. Luce was the first wine ever produced in Montalcino by blending Sangiovese and Merlot grapes.
Combining the roundness and suppleness of Merlot with the structure and elegance of Sangiovese seems an obvious idea, but it took two well established winemakers, Lamberto Frescobaldi and Tim Mondavi, to do that in the land of the world renowned Brunello di Montalcino, a wine made strictly from 100% Sangiovese.

An Interesting White
That Was #96 On The Top 100 Wines of 2004
Wine Spectator's List
Feudi di San Gregorio
Falanghina Sannio 2003
90 POINTS
Country: Italy
Region: Campania
Aromas of lemons and rhubarb turn to minerals, melons, and honey. Medium- to full-bodied, with lovely acidity and a long, ripe fruit aftertaste.
The 100% Falanghina grapes are picked by hand and transported to the winery by refrigerated truck. Bunches are individually sorted and then gently crushed. Only the "free run" juice is used for the wine; the rest is sold off in bulk. The wine goes through a long, low-temperature fermentation in stainless steel tank for twenty-eight days. This process promotes fresh fruit and floral aromas and flavors in the wine, as well as rich textures on the palate.
Like a fine Albariño or Mâcon, the 2003 Feudi Falanghina Sannio DOC has unmistakable mineral aromas that leap to your nose from the glass. There’s a flinty, grassy, wet stones quality along with the minerals, and this grows into dried apricots, white flowers and stone fruits. There is a pure, bright fruit attack, then on the palate there are ripe pear, melon and light honey flavors. Zippy acidity balances the bright fruit with just a touch of residual sugar. The minerals linger for a long while, with a note of white pepper. For anyone who loves the essential character of excellent dry white wines, this is a mouthful. Pair this with seafood, chicken (roasted, grilled or cold), pasta and Asian food. This bottle is a great value, especially given the aroma/flavor punch it packs.

Try An Australian Shiraz!!
With A Screw Cap...
Nine Stones Shiraz
From The Barossa Valley
This handcrafted wine was made from selected parcels of low cropping fruit. Following fermentation it spent time in a mix of new and seasoned oak hogsheads before bottling.
The style is full-bodied and generous. The nose shows fruit cake and mocha, together with ripe blackberry and smokey barrel overtones. The palate has a sweet core of multi-layered fruit flavours, together with soft and supple tannins suggesting this is an early drinking style, but it will improve for many years in the bottle.
